I think the main misconception people have about bi erasure is that it means “whoops, forgot bisexuals exist, oh well that kinda sucks” which is far more benign and easy to dismiss than what it really is: covering up and editing the existance of bisexuals from history and everyday life, as well as from past, present and future media, in order to categorise them as either straight, gay or anything other than bisexual, because most of society believes bisexual existance is not only inconcievable but also disgusting.

And this is why we can’t talk about “bisexual invisibility” – we have to talk about bisexual erasure.
