A cat at a reception desk said to me, “Welcome to the Cat Building.” A Pomeranian appeared. The cat says, “This is my partner, Truffles. He’s a dog.” The statement is followed by uncomfortable silence. The cat explained, “I have no idea how he got here, but he’s a good dog”.
Then I woke up.
An honestly baffling amount of people mistake my Pomeranian for a cat. That’s probably how he got there.
based on extensive observation, I believe that my cats have only a tenuous grasp on how much of my body is “me”
It’s like, Head: definitely Big Friend, note eyes and noise-hole.
Hands: 90% certainty of Big Friend, 10% possibility of toy. comprised of two main parts, the rubby-rubby and the wriggly-scritchers. does Big Friend control them with her mind? the mechanism is unclear.
Arms, aka “Cuddle Snakes”: do these help Big Friend’s hands from getting lost? good place to sit.
Torso: ??? we have no idea what this is. smells like Big Friend but serves no observable purpose. treat as terrain.
Legs, see: “The Lap Conundrum”: 25% chance of Big Friend, totally uninteresting. WHEN LAP: 90% chance of Big Friend, excellently warm. where does the lap go? our finest cat scientists seek the answer to this mystery, but no breakthroughs as of yet.
Feet, aka “Twitchy-Kickers”: 10% chance of Big Friend, 90% chance of foe. all attempts to communicate have ended in hostility. Destroy on sight.
For a minute I thought he just had fur that changed color/pattern right on his hindquarters. Buh, I have no brain.
Poor baby, I hope he gets well soon!
‘no brain’, NO WAY.
Comments like yours are legit some of my favorite because I get to talk about COOL COAT PATTERNS IN CATS. There are cases where shaving a cat has resulted in a drastic coat pattern change.
SAY HELLO TO QUATTRO
Before he was shaved, his fur was pretty typical siamese: all creamy with just his legs, face, and tail dark. But now his whole flank is dark.
Why?
Because Siamese points are actually a result of temperature-dependent albinism! 😀 Also known as
acromelanism, this is a neat little mutation in which a specific enzyme (tyrosinase, which is responsible for melanin production) stops functioning at a normal body temperature, but will function when it gets cooler. So in cool zones on a cat’s body (face, ears, tail, feets), melanin production is normal. The warm zones develop in a lovely cream.
Since his butt is cold, it has normal melanin production. Once it gets all fuzzy and starts a typical shed pattern, it’ll come in cream eventually. Until then, he’ll have weird pants.
Genetics are weird and AWESOME.
It got even better
Wait so what about the first cat? We’re his pants always that different to his jacket or are his new pants different to his old ones??
Jonah’s pants are just slow growing. His pants look different bc they’re still growing in.
