Tag Yourself: Fanfiction Authors Edition

the newbie: has written like 1 super cliche fic, doesn’t space paragraphs, everyone secretly hates them but doesn’t want to be rude
the high schooler: only writes high school aus, is actually a middle schooler, writes 3 chapters then gives up and writes a new fic, wants to be more creative but nahhhh
the firecracker: CRACK FICS, just writes weird shit, usually only writes one shots but when they do go for chaptered it’s super creative and well done, likes body swap a lot, always uses overdone memes
the fluffmaster: their stuff is short and sweet, always G rated, but they secretly have ten million kinks
the texter: can literally only write group chat fics, not creative enough for anything else
the infamous: wrote only one fic ever but it was super long and it’s the most popular in the fandom
the smut addict: only writes smut, probably really kinky, seriously though you haven’t even heard of half of these, this is messed up
the nonexistent: writes such average fics that you forget them, but they’re actually really creative
the procrastinator: chapter 2??? what chapter 2???
the wattpad: writes self insert fics for one direction, uses wattpad, probably 9 years old, always adds vampires, generally hated
the monster: likes hurting the characters, will make you cry, kills off a lot of the characters, wHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THIS???
the deadliner: only writes when there’s a deadline of some sorts. Excell at Secret Santas and that sort of thing
the glutton: writes it all, smut fluff angst all mixed up, sometimes in one fic
the AU-lover: the one that flees into different universes to hide from a messed up canon.

i don’t think people really get how little feedback fanfic authors actually get? like the effort to reaction ratio is so abysmally skewed here that a fic nearly 50,000 words long takes an entire year to amass like. 16 comments. someone reblogged a fic i wrote at 4 am and tagged it with a 5-word compliment and i can’t stop thinking about it, not because it was so nice but because half the time you post a fic you’re going to hear nothing and anything feels like so much

fandom culture is so, so good about giving artists the credit they’re due, but we gotta start doing that for writers too. you’ve got no idea how much people put into their stories and get maybe a handful of reblogs and a dozen-odd kudos. that’s not enough. writing is an endurance sport and y’all need to start giving fic writers a reason to endure it and improve their craft. encourage writers like you encourage artists. reblog fics, leave tags, leave comments, acknowledge that these stories do not just spring into being for your entertainment.

every single damn writer i know feels like at least their readers see them as a machine. that’s gotta change.

no one gives fanfic writers enough credit like can we just slow clap it out for all the writers who can manage to finish a fic or just even start one and have the confidence to put it out there for everyone to see because that shit is pretty hard to do and so is typing it all up and just thinking of the plot and all the little details idk writers are great

THANK YOU.

@ruby-dear made me write this with her text/picture posts. I’ll add a link to them when she posts them. Written in the messaging system so sorry for the weird writing style. Please enjoy this ShinRan fluff!

Ok so college Ran/ Shinich. They’re at the bar with their friends and Ran might have had one too many. It’s a friends birthday or something and she usually doesn’t but like, they Asked. Shinichi is sober cause someone’s gotta stay sober and what if murder? Can’t get drunk. (college shin is a bit high strung.)
