if you care about LGBTQ+ rights, racism/sexism, conversion therapy, blm etc etc etc DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR VOTE VOTE FOR HILLARY or TRUMP WILL BECOME PRESIDENT OF THE GOD DAMN USA
DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR VOTE WITH A WRITE-IN OR A THIRD PARTY VOTE PLEASE!!!!
We’ve already lost 4 votes to Sanders in New Hampshire and one county threw 9 votes away to third parties, allowing Trump to win there. A vote for a third party is a vote for Trump, period.
This is a plea to those in the US on tumblr about election night:
If you can, please, for your own safety, stay home.
Regardless of who wins, there will be violence.
If Hillary wins, then all the violence Trump has been encouraging will come to a head. His supporters have already said they believe the system is rigged, and there is a growing movement to “take up arms” and “fight back” if Trump loses. This is especially important for those of you in smaller, more rural, white-dominated communities. Trump supporters are plenty there, and as someone who lives in one, I can tell you the chances of people having guns on hand are very high.
If Trump wins, then all of his ideas about “law and order” being enforced by self-policing neighborhoods and his terrifying ideas of vigilantism being an acceptable form of law enforcement could come to fruition. People will most likely be protesting if he wins, and there is a heavy chance that Trump supporters may decide to shut these protests down with violence. They may decide to get a jump start on kicking people out of America. They may decide to commit hate crimes because Trump being elected reinforces their belief that violent rhetoric and actions against minorities is acceptable.
This is not an exaggeration. There will be violence on Tuesday night. There will be hate crimes. There will be people hurt. Do absolutely everything you can to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
Sound extreme? Well, listen up.
I want to stress something to everyone on tumblr who is voting for the first time, or is too young to remember previous elections: the violent rhetoric around this election is NOT NORMAL.
Previous elections have never had this strong of a group of people declaring they’ll secede if their candidate loses. Previous elections have never had violence encouraged and stoked by a presidential candidate. Previous elections have never been this tense, this scary, this pivotal.
This election has been violent, and the results on Tuesday night will either push Trump supporters into thinking their violence is acceptable, or push them into fighting back against what they see as a “rigged system”.
Either way, please look after yourself Tuesday night, especially if you are a minority and/or live in a conservative, white-dominated community.
Please reblog this so everyone can see it. I never ask for reblogs, but this is extremely important for people in the U.S.
Please stay safe, this is a very concerning time for a lot of people, me included. Vote, do what you need, and then go home.
Don’t let this discourage you from voting, do not, but go home after.
aight so I just like to imagine all the dead presidents come together every four years and set aside their differences to watch the elections. like FDR sitting next to Abe sitting next to Kennedy, everyone getting together and quietly pulling for their party’s nominee. Washington’s in a back corner just amazed that this system they set up two hundred-odd years ago is still in motion, Adams and Jefferson sitting with him just saying “holy shit, it’s still here” and the like to themselves the whole time. Tyler and Taylor and the rest all in another corner, shit-talking Nixon because hey, maybe nobody remembers them, but at least they didn’t fuck up bad enough to have to quit.
2008 was an interesting year because really, a black president? who saw that coming? and then 2016 comes along and they’re watching all throughout the primaries like aight, who’s it gonna be this time. and then as the shit show that we’ve become all too familiar with continues, there’s this slow creeping horror that spreads throughout the room, as finally the parties elect their nominees.
and then on the night of November 8, 2016, a hundred years after Wilson was elected and two hundred years after Monroe, they’re all sitting together with bated breath. we’ve already established that they don’t sit together along party lines, though Reagan and Nixon and Ike are in a cluster near the front because what the actual fuck has happened to their party. Washington’s still sitting in the back, though by now he’s muttering “I said, don’t do parties, and you know what? This is exactly what you fucking get,” and Buchanan shushes him because he just wants to hear the results. and every time a state is called for Hillary all the liberals cheer loudly, and every time a state is called for Trump there’s this uncomfortable silence that falls over the room for a few moments, because let’s be honest, absolutely none of the dead former presidents want him to join the club; the liberals hate every word that comes out of his mouth, and the Republicans still can’t believe that their party is supporting him (and the conservative non-Republicans, those from before the modern party system, quietly deny any party relation to that candidate).
and this doesn’t have an ending, not yet, because I’m writing this the night before the election hoping with all the other past presidents that by this time tomorrow they’re celebrating Hillary’s win instead of lamenting Trump’s. so go vote if you haven’t, and encourage others to go vote if you can’t or already have. go vote and do your part in making history, one way or another.
White dudes: I don’t know who’s worse: Hillary or Trump.
LGBTQ people: Trump is.
Black people: Trump is.
Undocumented immigrants: Trump.
Muslims: It’s Trump.
Women: Trump duh.
White dudes: *shoves head deeper into ass* I just… don’t… know…
Nope. I’m a woman, they’re both awful. Neither deserve to be president. 😐
being president isn’t a special award you get by being a wonderful person who’s never done anything wrong. being president is a job two people are trying to be hired for. one of them is the endorsed candidate of literally actual nazis, and the KKK, and vladmir putin, and will gain access to nuclear weapons if appointed president. his running mate is very open about wanting to roll back rights for women to turn of the last century or earlier. he himself has failed at every single business venture he’s managed and has been sued repeatedly for sexual assault. he’s being sued again this month for raping a thirteen year old.
the other candidate is a successful politician, who’s got a proven track record of voting very progressively for the times she’s been in office, who openly regrets many of her earlier and more racist positions and statements, and who is working to make amends. she’s lied significantly less than most of her peers. she listens to her constituency way more. she’s almost exactly as progressive as bernie sanders, and has gotten a lot more done than him too, while being a woman under constant investigation for corruption and wrong-doing, neither of which was ever found.
if they’re both awful, clinton is awful like a stubbed toe and trump is awful like disembowelment. and one of them is going to be president. suck it the fuck up.
