A guide for white people.

What. Racist no matter what?? ://///

Yes. Those of us who are white need to recognize that we always have more to learn, always have more to do to earn or retain the title of ally. We might think we’ve learned all there is to know – what racist behavior to avoid, what rallies to attend, how to call out other white people – but chances are we will still slip up sometimes, will realize something we’ve been saying was racist or will speak over POC when we should shut up or will fail to act when we should have acted to support POC.

And even if we were somehow to become The Perfect Ally, it is impossible not to benefit in some ways from our white privilege, from systemic racism. I am white, I am trying to learn and be anti-racist, but if I ever pretend I’m “free” from being racist or no longer benefit from racism then I’ve stopped learning, I’ve stopped listening, and I’ve made my allyship about me instead of about POC.

Racism, sexism, heteronormativity, cissexism, xenophobia…all sorts of prejudices are unfortunately in the air we breathe. I don’t think it makes us Bad Mean Bigots to have absorbed these prejudices – unless we refuse to acknowledge those prejudices. When white people pretend we’re not racist anymore, we’ve failed. For another example, when straight and/or cis people pretend they’re not homophobic or transphobic anymore, they’ve failed. When men pretend they don’t still hold some sexist beliefs deep down or benefit from sexism, they’ve failed. And so on.

Those of us who want to earn the title ally need to perpetually work for it, and we always need to be open to correction.

It’s always interesting and fun whenever some big Internet leftist on here who prides themself on being anti bigotry and anti-racist shifts into parroting antisjws whenever they get dragged for antiblack comments.

Like, it’s almost like they have no black friends and do that perfomashit in the comfort of their clique of white friends where they suck each other off for being so woke while never actually interacting with anyone who isn’t alabaster.

Also, if you’re unable to reblog this, then it’s definitely about you.

i dont get offended at white people jokes even though im white because:

  1. i can recognize white people as a whole have systemically oppressed POC in america, which is where i live
  2. most people when they make white people jokes only mean the shitty white people and i am not a shitty white person
  3. im not a pissbaby

my white friends that have reblogged this give me life

4. Sometimes I am a shitty white person and the jokes remind me to FUCKIN STOP

If ur white and like this post I fux with u

^absolutely

5. It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.

i fucks with u heavy if ur white and you reblog this

6. They’re usually really fucking funny and don’t perpetuate stereotypes that will ever affect me economically, politically, or cause me any true harm, let alone create risks that “justify” my murder and/or death

Waits for my white mutuals to reblog😌

it is absolutely time for white allies to have uncomfortable ass conversations with their racist parents and friends and neighbors. it is absolutely time for you to speak tf up in class when someone says something racist or misogynistic or homophobic. the social justice movement has been built almost entirely by black women. it is time for white allies to step the fuck up and educate themselves and have difficult conversations with the people around them that say intolerant things.

lesbiangaara:

obviously homophobia and misogyny played a role in the way this election went and obviously all women and LGBT people have a right to be worried but don’t be disingenuous.. …. we know that the outcome of this election was fueled primarily white supremacy and xenophobia. fellow white women and white gays need to wake the fuck up and start thinking more critically about this.

the voting rights act wasn’t in place to protect you. it was never for you, and to have it gone is not targeting you.

You’re an Indian giver in the way you love: Everything you give, you take away.

What is an Indian giver?

A person who gives something and than wants it back.

what did the Indians want back?

More specifically, the term “Indian giver” arose from a series of incidents in which European colonists would borrow food and supplies from the local First Nations, then turn around and go “oh, we thought it was a gift” when the locals later tried to collect on the loan.

Modern history books like to bang on about “cultural misunderstandings”, but if you look at contemporary records, it’s clear that there was no misunderstanding – the colonists totally understood that they were being extended a loan, and simply didn’t want to pay it back.

The myth that Native Americans liked to swindle people by giving them gifts and later claiming that the gift had actually been a loan – hence, “Indian giver” – thus developed in order to retroactively justify the colonists stiffing the locals when those loans came due.

(In the interest of clarity, interest-bearing loans were not commonly practiced by North America’s First Nations at the time, though they did exist among some groups; in this context, the term “loan” simply means “I give you something you need right now, and you give me back something of equal value at some specified or unspecified future date”.)

Whoa…..

This got really educational

^^ I’m glad it did too. I’ve heard this phrase all my life and now I can educate people on it

Not saying that anymore. Thanks for the lesson!

I figured as much.
